Name of product: Little Tikes Chit 'N Chat Toy Cell Phones

Manufacturer: Kids Station Toys International Ltd. of Miami, Fla.

Hazard: The hinge cover on the toy cell phone can detach from the phone, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and the firm have received three reports of the toy breaking, including one report of a child beginning to choke on a small part.

Description: The Little Tikes brand Chit 'N Chat Toy Cell Phone resembles a flip-phone style cell phone and has a 10-key numeric button pad and three buttons with pictures of animals.

All of the buttons make a sound when pressed. The toy phones are multi-colored and have a sticker on the back with model number KSL4010 (sold separately) or KSL8032, KSL8033, or KSL8051 (sold with other items).

"Designed and Licensed by Kids Station Toys International Ltd." is printed on the back of the toy phones.

Toy phones with a screw visible on the hinge cover are not subject to the recall.

Sold at: Department, juvenile product, and drug stores nationwide from June 2006 through March 2008 for about $8 (individually) or about $20 (set). Manufactured in: China

Summer time is almost here...

It's almost that time again...Getting outside more, running around in the grass,working in the garden, mowing the lawn,laying out or playing at the beach. And with all that, also comes bugs, more to the point bee's. There has been an email going around I've seen it atleast 5 times in the last two years so I figured it was worth posting here.

This is from an email fwd: "This information may be something to remember, as this season will soon be here again... It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while > working in the yard.......... BEE STINGS! A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden. My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I went to my regular doctor. The arm was infected and needed an antibiotic. The doctor told me - ' The next time you get stung, put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes'. That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So, I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning, there was no sign of a bite. We decided that she just wasn't allergic to the sting. Soon, I was gardening outside. I got stung again, twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the doctor for another antibiotic. I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately. In the meantime the hornets were attacking, and my friend was stung on the thumb. Again the penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where the hornet had stung me. No redness, no swelling. My friend's sting was the same; couldn't even tell where she had been stung. She got stung again a few days later upon her back---cutting the grass! And the penny worked once again. Wanted to share this marvelous information in case you experience the same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand . The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. It definitely works! Please remember and pass this information on to your friends, children, grandchildren, etc."

"What" you say "A Sales Tax HOLIDAY, you must be kidding?" No I'm not. That's right a Sales Tax holiday..... Last year I found out that - usually during August - there is a week set aside for people to school shop TAX FREE. Of course there are rules such as the individual item must not cost over $100 etc. But all in all a good deal considering how much you spend on school supplies every little bit helps.

Then recently I discovered that now; atleast in Virginia (following legislation enacted by the 2007 Session of the Virginia General Assembly, Virginia now has three annual sales tax holidays) and Florida, they are having a Hurricane Preparedness Tax Free Day as well. This "Hurricane Preparedness Tax Holiday" allows you to buy certain items tax free during a certain week. Watercolors and Salt

What a great project.
I just read an article about using Salt in your watercolor paintings with kids. You use thick paper so that the watercolor doesn't bleed through. You paint as usual and then before the watercolors dry you sprinkle table salt where you want it. Let it dry completely and then you can brush off the excess salt. The salt absorbs the color and makes the painting a little sparkley as well.
